Image NEWS:  A couple of things are happening next Wednesday, July 29.  There will be a special meeting of the City Council about Tightends bar's failure to turn in it's quarterly reports, again.  They will also consider what to do about their failure to comply with the camera/recorders required in the alcohol ordinance.

WATER:  What's up with Remerton's water?  Apparently the chlorination system briefly broke down over the weekend.  Chlorine levels reportedly never fell below minimum levels but were not as high as usual to prevent the rotten egg smell.  The system was being drained to get rid of the stink.

During this meeting Council will likely vote to accept Mr. Jack D. Byrd as the new City Administrator, so he can get to work.  Council at their last meeting only agreed to authorize City Attorney Brad Folsom to enter into contract negotiations with Mr. Byrd.  Council likes to keep Mr. Folsom busy.

RUMOR & SPECULATION:  Speaking of keeping Mr. Folsom busy, another lawsuit against the City may be in the works.  It is only rumor at this point, more if/when one is filed.

City Council Work Session - July 6, 2008 -Outcome
Thursday, 02 July 2009

Monday, July 6, 2009 at 5:30 P.M.

Welcome Guests
Citizens to be Heard. - None (meeting started 3-4 minutes early, people arriving on time missed out)

Councilman Lydia Day announced the birth of Councilman Stacks son on July 4.

Presentations, Public Hearings and Updates:

1.  Update regarding water distribution-Chief Terrell- All easements obtained, contracts to be signed in a couple of weeks.
New Business:
1. Discussion regarding SE and variance request for 1746 W Gordon Street-Jessica-Former Genesis Christian school on Gordon to become a church.  Needs variance for parking.  Approval is recommended.  Council and staff have no objections since they will be far enough from bars and bar biz will not be impacted.
2.  Discussion regarding main sewage flow meter-Ron Woods - We can't measure the crap flowing to Valdosta so must buy new meter (est $9,400) or they will stop taking our crap.
3.  Department Reports:
  a. City Clerk-Lisa Mashburn
  b. Probation-Jessica Freeman
  c. Police-Mike Terrell- One of the many onerous requirements put on the bars with the new Alocohol Ordinance is installing a minimal recording surveillance system.  As usual three of the bars are not complying; Milltown Groove, Flipflops and Tightends.  They have to weeks to comply or the council will give them another two weeks.  They claim insufficient funds.
  d. Fire/Utilities/Public Works-Ron Woods-Remerton held a fund raiser for cancer researched last weekend and $970 was raised during the day long event.

Old Business:

   1. Discussion regarding Noise Ordinance-Chief Terrell-The controversial new noise ordinance will be disussed at the July 13 regular session.  It is recommed that an "A" limit  be included to avoid picolo and flute concert abuse.

Concilman Day asked Jessica Freeman what the DDA's sense of the ordinance was since Ms Freeman hadn't reported any information.  The DDA has no objection to the ordinance, but does not agree with an Entertainment District.  Ms Freeman recommended an Entertainment District  and showed some possibilities on a city map.

It is recommended that noise level measurements will be taken at the rear property lines.

  2. Discussion regarding City Administrator Position-Council member Wetherington-The vote for the new city administrator will happen at the July 13 regular session after the two candidates are discussed in Executive Session.
