Image Remerton Chief of Police Mike Terrell warned about leaving valuable in vehiclesat Monday's Work Session.

While the  police are busy during the bar closing times, thieves are taking advantage by breaking into cars, both locked and unlocked to steal valuables.

Remove valuables from your vehicle's interior--don't tempt the thieves!

19 year old VSU student killed by train in Remerton

James Leonard Elkins Jr., a 19 year old VSU student, was struck and killed by a train behind Wayland Park Drive around 2:20 AM today.

Whether or not alcohol was involved is under investigation.

CITY OF REMERTON - REGULAR SESSION MEETING AGENDA
MONDAY, AUGUST 9, 2010 at 5:30 P.M.

WELCOME GUESTS.
PLEDGE AND PRAYER.
ESTABLISH QUORUM OF COUNCIL.
CITIZENS TO BE HEARD-(min 01:00-06:50 ) Frenchy DePasture spoke about open sex acts observed between Baytree Pl and Plum St, the condition of Remerton water and Police incident reports (11) about Councilman Ryan Gordon as well as question about his actual residency.

NEW BUSINESS:
1. Consideration regarding financial report-Lisa Mashburn, City Clerk.
2. Consideration regarding approval of meeting minutes from Combined Workession/Regular Session, July 6, 2010 and Special Called Meeting July 29, 2010-Lisa Mashburn, City Clerk - All approved with spelling changes.
3. Consideration regarding renewal of Certificate of Deposit no 9605000407 at Bank of Valdosta-Lisa Mashburn, City Clerk - CD will be moved to Farmer's & Merchants Bank for better rates.

4. Consideration regarding First Annual Chicken Wing Festival-(min 12:50)-Jessica Freeman-Saturday Sept 4th from 9:AM to 6:00PM in the Remerton Square parking lot.  The open container ordinance will be waived during these hours.  All are invited to compete in the chicken wing contest.  Johnson Distributors will provide the beer.  VSU vs Wingate with a 7:00PM kickoff time.

This is also Parents Weekend for VSU, so students, please refrain from having sex on the sidewalks and urinating in public.  You may resume normal behavior when the moms & dads return home assured that they are safe in the protective and caring arms of the City of Remerton.

5. Update regarding Remerton Mill Grant-Dr. Jack Byrd, City Administrator-No grants available.  Loans only, so there will be nothing for Remerton Mills, LLC.

Remerton Special Called Meeting July 20, 2010 - Millage rate & New Council Member

During the three and one half minute Special Called Meeting to set the property tax millage rate Remerton's newest City Council member, Jasen Lee Tatum, was sworn-in by City Attorney Brad Folsom.

The Council now has four of five seats filled.  The remaining seat will be decided in the November election and the candidate chosen to serve the remainder of Reggie Stacks'  term will be sworn-in January of 2011.

Oh, yeah...the millage rate will remain at 6.387, unchanged from last year's.
