During this year's City of Remerton Christmas Party, Council members Sherry Wood and Ryan Gordon were awarded the First Annual Lydia Day Good Government Award. Wood & Gordon were this year's unanimous choice for their hard work in the actualization off former Council member Lydia Z. Day's vision for a better Remerton. That vision included:
1. Removal of the former City Manager 2. Clean, safe water for all the City's citizens and businesses. 3. A revised and enforced Alcoholic Beverage Ordinance. 4. A fair and enforceable noise ordinance. 5. A city government that is open and responsive to the needs of it's citizens.
Council Members Ryan Gordon & Sherry Wood suggested renaming their street of of mutual residence from Wayland Drive to Lydia Lane. Other suggestions were renaming Poplar or Plum to Day Street. The Bar Owner's Association has agreed to pick up the costs of new signs, according to Mr. Gordon.
For those of you unfamiliar with the politics of Remerton, all of the above is total "bullcrap". Apparently some fun was had at the former council member's expense during the City's Christmas party. This story will be available in the "Humor(?)'" Section, later.
On the way to the Noise Consultant selection vote and the Alcohol Ordinance work session, it was noticed that the flag over City Hall was flying at both half-mast and upside down.
Half-mast is recognized as a symbol of mourning and, at sea, an upside down flag is the signal for distress. Some even believe that it is the signal the crew has abandoned ship and it can be claimed for salvage by first-comers.
Have things gotten that bad? Is it a metaphor for Remerton's current circumstances?
Nope, just bad pulleys that have been getting worse since last noticed before the October 13 meeting. Or, maybe...
Don't quite understand the "subprime" mess and why it's causing such turmoil?
Here is an explanation that was tossed over Editor's transom in the dark of night. The author wishes to remain anonymous and the language is "R" rated and may be offensive to some, but it's worth a look.
During the proposed new alcohol ordinance work session Councilman Gordon reported on the will of the people and the consequences of cutting off liquor sales an hour earlier from 3AM back to 2AM.
Basically, it's not what the people want and shutting off liquor sales an hour sooner is a public safety and community order issue. Apparently, something bad happened in Statesboro when people were forced to stop buying liquor too soon, and we don't want that.
In a shocking development the entire Remerton City Council was forced to resign after the city manager revealed (aided by a council member's girlfriend, a veterinarian and PETA charter member), that the feral cat project was a front for a cat skin coat and sweater factory long established in the old Remerton Mill basement by a previous administration.
The RPD raided the factory upon this revelation, releasing several dozen college students who had be there since the late 90's fuflillling their community service obligation.
To complete the coup, the Mayor (innocent of any misdeeds) married her long time fiance, a Valdosta city official, on the spot and signed the documents necessary to complete the annexation of Remerton by Valdosta.
Just kidding.
More to come on the actual (rather successful) meeting later...
If you were there, please submit your thoughts, essays, comments etc. A lot was discussed.
